The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 21 November as World Television Day on 17 December 1996. The United Nations organized the world’s first World Television Forum on 21 and 22 November in the year 1996.

When was the first telecast of Doordarshan?
The first telecast of Doordarshan was started on 15 September 1959 in the form of half-hour educational and development programs on an experimental basis. At that time Doordarshan used to telecast only three days a week for half an hour. First it was named ‘Television India’, later in 1975 its name was changed to ‘Doordarshan’ in Hindi.

Contrast ratio- Contrast ratio is the difference between black and white displayed on a TV. The higher the contrast ratio, the more blacks appear black and the whites appear whiter.
Contrast ratio simply means the ability of the panel to show a number of shades of the same color or tone. The higher the contrast ratio, the more natural the picture will appear.
frame rate- Having a higher frame rate helps reduce blur and gives the viewer a better experience when watching fast-paced scenes like sports or gaming.

Response Time- Response time is the difference between 2 frames. Therefore, it is a measurement of how long it takes for the display to change the image. Response time is measured in milliseconds.

Connectivity in TV:
- VGA cable is used to connect laptops to televisions. It provides only video signals. The audio needs to be connected separately.
- Composite connection is the audio video connection. It consists of yellow (Video) white and red (Audio) cables. This provides SD picture quality.
- A total of 5 cables needed for a Component connectivity i e 3 for video (RGB) and 2 for audio (Red & White). The quality of output is almost as good as that of an HD
- S- Video is used to connect laptops or DVD players to TVs. It provides only video input and audio cables need to be connect ed separately.
- HDMI provides digital interface that enables 100% transmissions of both visual and audio signals. It supports upto 8 multi channel digital audio.
- USB Port lets you hook an external hard drive to show pictures, videos and even play games through the TV. In other cases you could use the USB socket to hook up a wireless dongle, giving your TV access to your home Wi-Fi network.
